Nike Discloses Factory
Locations
Maquila Solidarity Network
April 15, 2004
On Wednesday, April 13, Nike announced it
was publicly disclosing the names
and addresses of all its supply factories producing Nike brand products
around the world.
This important precedent is the product of years of campaigning by the
anti-sweatshop movement for public access to information on where and
under what conditions our clothes are made. The adoption of ethical
purchasing policies by a growing number of public institutions that
require factory disclosure has also played a major role in pushing
university suppliers like Nike to disclose information on supply factories
and workplace audit findings.
Hopefully, Nike's announcement will encourage other companies to disclose
supply chain information and provide transparent CSR reports. However,
given the slow progress on these issues in Canada, government action is
needed to require and encourage Canadian companies to disclose where and
under what conditions their apparel products are made.

announcement, calling on Canadian companies and the Canadian government to
